Welcome to the Mold Media & Advocate hub — where real stories, evidence, and action come together to fight for tenants living in unlivable conditions. This page highlights how landlords are getting away with renting out mold-infested homes, especially in low-income and Section 8 housing, while families suffer in silence.
My name is Jessica Johnson, and I’m not just sharing my story — I’m standing up for every tenant who’s been ignored, gaslit, or pushed aside. My family, pets, and neighbors have been exposed to severe mold conditions for years. Despite multiple lab tests, toxicology reports, and pleas for help, our voices were dismissed — until now.
⚠️Toxic mold doesn’t just look bad — it destroys lives.
These are the real health effects my family, pets, and neighbors have experienced:
Brain fog, memory loss, and confusion
Breathing problems like asthma, wheezing, and sinus infections
Panic attacks, anxiety, mood swings, and depression
Hair loss, skin irritation, and chronic fatigue
Delayed development in children, especially under age 5
Vomiting, sickness, and death in pets — we lost our cat, Thumb

This article helped shed light on what we were going through-making it real for others outside the situation. It was one of the first times someone outside of my building took our story seriously.

Exposing the System Failure That Leaves Low-Income Families in Danger
Many families living in Section 8 housing in Frederick have reported severe mold issues in their homes — homes that are supposed to be safe and subsidized by taxpayer dollars. But when they turn to the Frederick Housing Authority or other state-run agencies for help, they are told the truth:
💊There is NO funding provided to cover mold testing.
🗣️This means:
Tenants are left to pay hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket to prove the very conditions harming them.
If they can’t afford it, nothing happens. No testing. No investigation. No accountability.
Mold goes untreated, families continue to get sick, and landlords keep collecting rent — even government-funded rent — without fixing the problem.
This is not just neglect — this is systemic failure.
There is no law requiring landlords to test for mold, and no funding provided to help low-income tenants prove their homes are unsafe.
✅Funding for Mold Testing must be included in Section 8 oversight.
✅Routine Mold Inspections should be required for any subsidized housing unit.
✅ Emergency Testing Support should be available when tenants report health symptoms or visible moldick Resident and Adv
